VICE is an acronym for Vehicle and Infantry Combat Environment
VICE is a revolutionary, versatile, and most importantly, a FREE combat system and Software Development Kit that was created for the Linden Lab virtual community, Second Life. VICE is the first comprehensive, free combat system in Second Life to allow for a wide range of dynamic interaction between infantry, vehicles, and even buildings, without compromising security, simulator performance, or gameplay! VICE is an open system which allows content creators to add a multitude of features to their projects, choose how they want to use them, or even create exclusive lines of products.
Using a simple set of acronyms to represent a generalized variety of units and weapons, ranging from tanks, planes, boats and infantry, VICE may be used in the development of combat weapons and vehicles that are applicable for any genre or era, anything from the early days of gunfighting in the west, full scale World War II battles, to space based sci-fi combat. The variety of options presented within VICE is only limited by the creativity of the builder.
Each VICE unit type and weapon has its set of strengths and weaknesses to help balance gameplay. Using real physical bullets, carefully created for the smallest physics and script time footprint, combat is based more on skill, with realistic damage values. VICE also touts area affect damage weapons (bombs) that feature dynamic damage based on blast proximity, team play, and a host of other exciting features!

VICE has been in continuous development since 2007, and will continue to be actively improved and updated.
Background History
The VICE project began in 2007, to address shortcomings that existed (and continue to exist) in many of the combat systems in Second Life-- many of these combat systems were either highly unrealistic, easy to cheat with, laggy, expensive, no longer supported, or all of the above. Prior to VICE, combat in Second Life only existed as infantry against infantry, or plane against plane, with very little middle ground, or offerings that were lacking in many areas.
Created by a group of highly enthusiastic and talented individuals who enjoy the creativity that Second Life has to offer, VICE was made as a labor of love, with the intention of facilitating creativity within the vehicle and weapon communities, and providing a common ground so that work from many different content creators could interact with each other.
VICE is professionally scripted, rigorously tested for QA, and is constantly growing and improving. Created by veteran members of the Second Life community, vast amounts of time have been spent dissecting the various inner workings of how Second Life simulators, LSL, and the physics engine operates. It is by this thorough understanding of Second Life, as well as the understanding of other combat systems and their shortcomings, that VICE is able to offer unprecedented levels of performance alongside its wide array of features.

We never consider our work "complete" and always strive to continue the technological development of VICE by pushing the boundaries of what is possible in Second Life.
